It’s official — Giganews has hit the 400 day mark and is still going. This is good news for the industry as a whole, because it drives other providers in the same direction. And even better, Newshosting, UseNetServer, and NewsDemon are right on their heels, providing enough competition that Giganews can’t rest. Who benefits? We do! Here is the official press release:

Giganews Inc., the world’s foremost premium Usenet provider, beat its previous record of 365 days of binary retention. The company now provides customers with 400 days of binary retention in all 100,000 plus newsgroups. Giganews now stores more Usenet data for a longer period of time than any other Usenet provider.

"It was fantastic to meet our goal of providing a full year of binary retention, and today’s announcement is even more rewarding," said Philip Molter, CTO at Giganews. "Providing 400 days of binary retention across all newsgroups really shows that Giganews won’t ever stop pushing to exceed our customers’ expectations."

Giganews continues to lead the Usenet industry and plans to further upgrade data storage around the world. The Giganews homepage is updated daily to reflect ever-increasing Usenet retention levels.

Giganews® Usenet is a global, public social networking community that enables its members to share discussions and user generated content on an unlimited number of topics. Today, Giganews Usenet represents over 100K (and growing rapidly) multimedia Internet channels and interactive discussions which is accessed by tens of millions of people from over 180 countries. Giganews is a trademark of Giganews, Inc. All other trademarks mentioned in this document are the property of their respective owners

A full year of retention means that Giganews stores more of Usenet for a longer period of time and for more newsgroups than any other Usenet provider.

“Providing 365 days of retention is a triumph for us and for Usenet in general,” said Philip Molter, CTO at Giganews. “We are absolutely committed to leading the industry, and we’ll continue to innovate and stretch limits so we can give our customers the best possible Usenet experience, ” Molter added.

Giganews was the first Usenet provider to start aggressively growing the binary retention capacity for its customers to 365 days, and shortly thereafter all the other providers started similar “me to” initiatives. Now that Giganews has reached their initial goal the company announced today that they have every intention to continue increasing binary retention, but this time they have gotten smart and will not release how high they plan to go. They figure all the other providers will just follow along. What is cool about Giganews is that they are consistently innovating and always seem a few steps ahead of their competitors. Honestly, we can’t wait to see what this trend setter comes up with next! As Giganews goes, so goes the Usenet newsgroup marketplace.
