Newsreader Setup

The instructions below should be applicable to most Usenet news clients (a.k.a. newsreaders):

Step 1: Sign Up

Sign up with a Usenet Service Provider. To select the best Usenet Service Provider for your needs, try our provider smart comparison table, or our plan smart comparison table.

Step 2: Download and Install

Download and install any of these Usenet programs to use with your Usenet Service Provider. We include download links to some of the better newsreaders below, but if you want to compare newsreaders in more depth, try our newsreader smart comparison table.

Step 3: Configure your Newsreader

Configure your Usenet program to work with your Usenet Service Provider account:

  • Server: Your Usenet Service Provider will provide you with this information. Example: news.giganews.com
  • Server requires authentication: Yes
  • Username: (Enter the username your provider assigned here)
  • Password: (Enter the password your provider assigned here)
  • Optional settings: (Enter the information given to you by your provider. For an example of what you might expect, see the following table.)
