How to Configure a Newsreader Client — Courtesy of Newshosting

In November, we were happy to report in our blog that our current Best Overall Usenet Provider — Newshosting — had created an outstanding, highly professional series of video tutorials to help new Usenet users become familiar with the most common newsgroup activities. This first video lesson walks new users through configuring four of the most popular newsreaders (also known as news clients). The four news clients featured in the tutorial are:

  • Newsbin Pro (Our pick for Best Newsreader, see profile here, purchase here)
  • Outlook Express
  • Thunderbird (Also a great mail application! Available for Windows, Mac, and Linux)
  • Unison (Mac specific)

Even if you've done the research and picked another news client, these videos may help you out. Unlike many tutorials they walk you through the newsreader configurations step-by-step and omitting nothing. No skipping over those key moments that leave you scratching your head. The only small quibble we have is that SSL configuration — specifically selecting the SSL option and picking a port — isn't covered. Still, this is pretty self-explanatory from the screenshots. Happy configuring!
